Short on time doesn't mean short on experience. Our 2–5 day Egypt tours are precision-designed to deliver the Great Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Islamic Cairo, and more — without a single wasted hour.
A 2-day Cairo stopover is enough to stand in front of the Great Pyramid, see Tutankhamun's complete gold collection at the newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum, walk through 1,000 years of Islamic architecture on Al-Muizz Street, and visit the Coptic Quarter — if your itinerary is designed by people who know exactly how to use every hour. That is what our short Egypt tour packages are built for.
At Egypt Tours by Locals, every short break is designed by a certified Egyptologist who knows which sites to visit in which order, when crowds peak at each location, and how to give you the depth of understanding that most week-long tours fail to deliver. A private Egyptologist guide is the single biggest difference between a rushed overview and a genuinely transformative short trip.
Since 2012, we have designed short Egypt tours for hundreds of travellers routing through Cairo — with a 4.9/5 average rating. The feedback is consistent: \"I saw more in 3 days than most people see in a week.\"
\"A 3-day private tour is not a compromise — it is a different kind of experience. When I design a 3-day Cairo itinerary I am making very specific choices: Pyramids at 7am before the crowds, GEM from 10am for 3 hours, Islamic Cairo in the afternoon. Every hour is placed deliberately. That is what makes a short tour extraordinary rather than rushed.\"
All packages below run 2–5 days. Fully private, certified Egyptologist guide, 4-star hotel, and private transport included.
A sample structure — every tour is customised to your interests and travel style.
Start at the Giza Plateau at 7am — the Great Pyramid, the Sphinx, and the Valley Temple before the day-tour coaches arrive. By 10am transfer to the Grand Egyptian Museum (2km away): the complete Tutankhamun collection, the colossal Ramesses II statue, and 100,000 artefacts from 5,000 years of Egyptian history. Allow 3–4 hours.
Al-Muizz Street — one kilometre of continuous Islamic architecture from the 10th–14th centuries. Al-Azhar Mosque (founded 970 CE), the Citadel of Saladin, and the perfume and spice quarter of Khan el-Khalili bazaar. Afternoon: Old Cairo's Coptic Quarter — the Hanging Church and Ben Ezra Synagogue.
The Step Pyramid of Saqqara — the world's first pyramid, built by Imhotep in 2,650 BCE, 100 years before the Great Pyramid. Memphis: the colossal Ramesses II statue and the alabaster sphinx. Return to Cairo for a felucca sail on the Nile at dusk.
With 4–5 days, extend to Alexandria (220km, 2.5 hours) for the Qaitbay Citadel, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and seafood on the Mediterranean Corniche — or fly to Luxor for an overnight and the Valley of the Kings.
Eight reasons why this duration delivers the best Egypt experience.
Every site is visited at the time your Egyptologist has identified as optimal — Pyramids at 7am, GEM mid-morning, Islamic Cairo afternoon. Timing is everything on a short break.
A private Egyptologist doesn't give you a 5-minute overview at each site. On a 3-day tour you visit fewer places but understand them at a level that most week-long group tours never achieve.
The Pyramids are never left to the last day. They are always the first morning — when you are fresh, the light is extraordinary, and the site is at its quietest.
The Grand Egyptian Museum opened fully in November 2025. The complete Tutankhamun collection — 5,000+ objects — is now on display for the first time in history. No short Egypt tour is complete without it.
Routing through Cairo on a longer trip? We design 1, 2, and 3-day stopover packages around your flight schedule — airport pickup, sites, and airport return, all perfectly managed.
No shared minibuses, no waiting for other guests. Your private air-conditioned vehicle and driver throughout — maximising the time you spend at sites rather than in transit.
We place you within 10 minutes of the Pyramids and GEM — minimising transfer time and maximising sightseeing hours. Hotel selection is part of the itinerary design.
Before you arrive, your Egyptologist reviews your specific interests and adjusts the itinerary accordingly. Every 5-day tour is different — designed for you, not averaged across all guests.
Real reviews from guests who chose this duration — verified on TripAdvisor and Google.
We had 4 days in Cairo as a standalone break and it was the best decision we have made in years of travel. Our Egyptologist guide designed every hour around what mattered to us — the GEM for 3 hours on Day 1, the Pyramids at sunrise on Day 2 (worth getting up for), Islamic Cairo on Day 3. I have been to Rome, Athens, and Istanbul. Cairo is in a different league entirely.
3-day stopover en route from London to Nairobi. Egypt Tours by Locals picked me up from the airport at 6am, and by 9am I was standing in front of the Great Pyramid. Three days later I had seen the complete Tutankhamun collection, Islamic Cairo, Saqqara, and the Nile at sunset. Our guide was extraordinary. Best stopover decision I have ever made.
5 days: 3 in Cairo and 2 in Alexandria. The contrast was perfect — ancient pharaonic Cairo, then the Greek and Roman layers of Alexandria. Our Egyptologist handled both cities with equal depth and enthusiasm. The Catacombs in Alexandria on Day 4 were completely unexpected — nothing like anything I had seen in Cairo. Five days was exactly the right length for both cities.
Eight reasons our guests choose us — whatever the duration.
Our short tour itineraries are designed by Egyptologists who know exactly what can be covered well — not just ticked off — in each time window. No padding, no filler.
The certified Egyptologist guides on our 3-day tours are exactly the same as those on our 14-day tours. Short duration does not mean lower guide quality.
Even on a 2-day short break, your tour is completely private — your group only, your schedule, your pace. No joining a group coach.
We build Grand Egyptian Museum visits into every Cairo itinerary. Our guides know the optimal entry time, the must-see galleries, and how to navigate the museum efficiently.
We have designed hundreds of Cairo stopovers — from 8-hour airport layovers to 3-night breaks. Tell us your flight times and we design around them.
Short tours depart any day of the year — not on a fixed schedule. Book for your exact travel window.
Since 2012, designing short Egypt tours that consistently exceed expectations. We know what works and what doesn't in every time window.
Hotel, guide, transport, and entrance fees itemised before you book. No surprise on-tour costs. What you see is what you pay.
Tell us your exact dates and how many days you have — we'll build a precision itinerary that makes every hour count.
