Pyramids of Giza
Three generations, three pyramids: Khufu's is the largest and oldest, Khafre's appears taller thanks to its hilltop position and surviving cap of smooth limestone, and Menkaure's, though the smallest, is arguably the most finely built. Valley Temple of Khafre
Built from massive red granite blocks with barely visible joints, this temple marked the final stage of the funerary journey, where Khafre's body was ritually purified before burial. Maro points out the empty niches where royal statues once stood and explains how the temple's austere design was intentional, built to honor rather than decorate.
"People are surprised by how plain it looks compared to the pyramids. But that's the point — this was about ritual, not display," says Maro.
The Egyptian Museum
Opened in 1902, this is one of the world's oldest and largest collections of Pharaonic antiquities, packed floor to ceiling with statues, sarcophagi, and royal treasures. Maro navigates straight to the pieces worth your limited time — including select items from Tutankhamun's tomb still housed here — rather than letting you get lost in over 120,000 objects.

"This is usually where guests start swapping stories about which pyramid or statue surprised them most. It's a nice midday reset before Khan El Khalili," Maro says.
