Great Sphinx

Valley Temple of Khafre
Constructed from massive granite blocks with joints so precise they're barely visible, this temple served as the final ceremonial stop before Khafre's burial, where his body underwent ritual purification. Maro points out the sockets where royal statues once stood and explains why the temple's design is so deliberately plain.
"No carvings, no color — just raw stone and precision. That was the intention. This place wasn't meant to impress visitors, it was meant to serve a ritual purpose," says Maro.
National Museum of Egyptian Civilization
Home to the Royal Mummies Hall, where 20 kings and queens of ancient Egypt lie in a purpose-built, climate-controlled gallery. Maro concentrates the visit around the mummies hall and a small set of standout exhibits, tracing Egypt's story from prehistory to the modern era without overloading the visit.
"This is one of the only places in the world where you're standing a few feet from actual pharaohs. I always give people a quiet moment there before I start talking," Maro explains.
The Cairo Citadel & Alabaster Mosque
Built by Saladin in the 12th century to defend Cairo, the Citadel now centers around the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, its alabaster-clad walls and Ottoman-style domes visible across the city skyline. From the Citadel's walls, Maro points out landmarks across Cairo's rooftops and minarets, one of the best panoramic views the city offers.
"I save this stop for midday on purpose — the light over the rooftops from up here is something you won't get anywhere else in Cairo," says Maro.

"This part of the city has some wonderful home-style cooking, tucked into streets most visitors would walk straight past," Maro notes.
Khan El Khalili Bazaar
Trading since the 14th century, Khan El Khalili remains Cairo's most famous market for spices, brassware, jewelry, and glass. Maro leads you first through the lanes locals actually use, then leaves time to browse freely, with a stop at El Fishawy café for mint tea along the way.
"Once you know the layout, this place is easy to enjoy on your own. That's why I always build in free time after the walk-through," Maro says.
