Pyramids of Giza

The plateau's three main pyramids belonged to Khufu, his son Khafre, and his grandson Menkaure, each built a little smaller than the last as resources and ambitions shifted across generations. Maro takes you to the panoramic viewpoint first, where all three line up in a single frame, then walks you closer to the Great Pyramid to show the scale of the individual limestone blocks up close.
"People always ask how they built it without modern machines. I explain the leading theories on the ramps and the labor system — it wasn't slaves, it was skilled workers who took real pride in the job," says Maro Saeed, your Egyptologist guide.
Great Sphinx

Carved from a single mass of bedrock left over from the quarry that supplied Khafre's pyramid, the Sphinx has a lion's body and a human face that most scholars link to Khafre himself. Maro covers the restoration work done over the centuries, the debate around its true age, and the story behind its missing nose.
"The nose question comes up every single time. I give visitors the honest answer: nobody knows for certain, but I'll tell you the theories that hold up best," Maro explains.
Valley Temple of Khafre

Built from enormous blocks of red granite and polished limestone, this temple once served as the final stop in the funerary procession, where Khafre's body was purified before burial. Maro shows you the bare sockets where statues of the king once stood and explains how the temple's stark, unadorned design reflects its purely ceremonial function.
"Most people walk past this one on their way to the Sphinx and miss it completely. But this is some of the oldest surviving stonework from the Old Kingdom — I always make sure we stop here properly," says Maro.
National Museum of Egyptian Civilization

Home to the Royal Mummies Hall, where 20 kings and queens of ancient Egypt rest in a purpose-built, climate-controlled gallery. Maro focuses the visit on the Royal Mummies Hall and a handful of key exhibits, tracing Egyptian civilization from prehistory to the present.
"Standing in front of Ramses II is different from seeing his statue. This is the actual person. I always give visitors a moment of quiet there before I start explaining," Maro notes.

What to Wear at the Pyramids & Museums
Cairo is generally relaxed, but modest and practical clothing is recommended.
- Lightweight, breathable clothes (especially in warmer months)

- Sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen for sun protection
- Light layers in winter (mornings can be cool)
👉 Both men and women can dress comfortably — just avoid overly revealing outfits, especially in cultural sites.

To enjoy the best experience:
- Early morning → fewer crowds + softer light for photos
- Late afternoon → golden sunset views over the desert
Midday can be hot, especially in summer — your guide will help adjust timing for comfort.
